Dakota Breeze |
 Zephyr Dakota Breeze aka "Breezy" was
purchased
by Slush Creek Walkers
as a yearling alongside her dam,
Dakota Dixie Flash. She remained at Slush Creek until her death in 2023. She was
Mark Pacovsky's saddle mare for many years. She was a prolific
producer who raised 19 foals.
"Breezy had exceptional bone and muscle with a nice smooth gait.
Her real claim to fame is brains! Breezy is smart, she can open
gates and doors, if you’re not on the ball she will get ahead of
you.
We leased about 4000 acres of pasture in the badlands right along
the Missouri River. One morning we went to load Breezy into the
trailer to go to the leased land to gather cows. She knew when we
loaded her into the trailer it meant hard work! She walked right up
to the back of the trailer and then went down like someone shot her!
We were shocked! While she lay there we checked her legs over,
really went over her good. We didn't find anything so Mark gave a
little tug to the side and Breezy jumped up. We lead her around in
some circles, she looked sound so we went to load her into the
trailer again. Down she went right at the back of the trailer! What
on earth was going on. We checked her all over again, Nothing.
Tugged the lead and up she scrambled. Now we were wise to her! Mark
started to load her but he went faster this time and when she went
down she was half in and half out of the trailer. It apparently hurt
because she jumped up and loaded into the trailer. Once at the lease
land she worked hard all day. I drove the trailer down to the river
to pick up Mark and the horses. Breezy refused to load. We tied her
to the trailer and put the pickup in 4-Low and Breezy walked 4 miles
back to the corrals. She stayed in the corral all by herself that
night. The next day she loaded right up and we never had another
problem with her loading."
Breezy also boasted Allen’s
Gold Zephyr still on her pedigree!
